Haven - Recruitment campaign

Haven came to us last year with a challenge around recruitment - with over 10,000 seasonal jobs to fill in front of house, chef, cleaner and lifeguard positions, they needed some up to date imagery they could use in campaigns to show what a great job it is to work behind the scenes (and by the sea!) at a Haven park.

With just two weeks to pull this production together including casting, wardrobe, site visits and logistics, it was no mean feat but it all came together thanks to the incredible team behind the lens.

There’s a first time for everything

This was our first time working with the lovely and legendary Jono Blackham, and his methods for getting smiles out of the models were… unique, shall we say. We’ll leave those methods to your imagination, but the results speak for themselves - the models did a great job of showing how fun it is to work at Haven over the summer.

How do we make being a cleaner at Haven look like the most fun job on earth?

It’s a good question. And one we asked ourselves at the beginning of this project. The team at Haven told us all the benefits of working during peak season at a Haven park, and one of the key things we wanted to capture was a breath of fresh air by the coast. Helped by some beautiful golden hour sunlight and incredibly happy models, Jono captured some images which feel so fresh and vibrant, you can almost smell the salty sea air.

Thinking on our feet… or wheels!

It became apparent when we got the brief that there was too much here to capture in one day, but too little to use up two days’ worth of time. So on our recce day we scouted out a few locations to capture some ‘generic’ Haven staff member shots which weren’t on our shot list. One of these locations was the check in area at the front of the park, but there was just one problem - we needed a car to feature. Don’t panic - our trusty Fiat 500 ‘Luigi’ stepped up to the plate, with an intense clean up in post as he hadn’t had a wash for a while… lesson learned, keep the car clean at all times just in case!

Freak sandstorm? Not a problem.

After a huge lighting challenge inside the restaurant due to a freak sandstorm that turned the sky red (classic for that to happen on a shoot day!) we made the most of the beautiful light fixtures and shot in a different direction than planned. It’s all about being reactive when you’re shooting on location - whether it’s the weather, the talent, the park or the guests - there’s always an unpredicted challenge to overcome. We’re really happy with the result in this case, and think the shots turned out better than they would have from the other angle. Result!
